Dream Song

Every month or so, I have a dream in which I compose a song. Sometimes, I wake up in time to still remember the melody and lyrics. This morning I had a dream in which I performed the song below on a guitar strung up with 4 foot long strands of my hair; and Jon Lund, publisher of the Maine Sportsman magazine, accompanying on mandolin. As performed in my dream a half hour ago, this song has a Woody Guthrie feel crossed with the Dixie Hummingbirds (an old time gospel quartet) and the Staples Singers:

I drove down to the center
I drove down to the center
I drove down to the center of the line.
(repeat)

When I drove down to the center
When I drove down to the center
When I drove down to the center
What did I find?
(repeat)

When I drove down to the center
When I drove down to the center
When I drove down to the center
I found a line.

So I drove down to the center
I drove down to the center
I drove down to the center of the line.

Pretty crappy. But free.
