Ask Dr. Geography: Southern Secession
Dear Dr. Geography:
If we were to immediately grant secession to the southern states, would they be a first world or a third world country, in the aggregate?
Signed,
Curious
Dear Curious:
Think Romania under Nicolae Ceausescu. But stupider, more polluted, more corrupt and more violent. And don't eat the water.
Yours Et Cetera,
Dr. Geography

Actually, if the southern states seceded, you should think the result would be aristocratic, cultured, and deferential. I would compare it to Athens under Pericles.
