The U.S. Runs Gulags

From the BBC:

A group of human rights organisations has named 39 people they say the US has held in secret CIA-run prisons and whose whereabouts are now unknown. The group has called on the US to end the programme of secret prisons for people detained in the "war on terror". US President George W Bush said last year such prisons existed but said no more detainees were being held in them. The group says it compiled its list from government and media sources and interviews with former prisoners. "It's time for the US government to come clean," said Clive Stafford Smith, Legal Director of Reprieve, one of the groups involved in the appeal. "These 39 people have been missing for years, and the evidence shows they were in US custody at some point. Where are they and what has been done to them?"
