Kennebec River Sea Lamprey

One of my dear friends, a male sea lamprey, (Petromyzon marinus), in his native home in Bond Brook, Kennebec River, Augusta, Maine, just prior to spawning in June.

Like many animals, just about everything we think we know about the sea lamprey is wrong.

I hate being preachy.

Okay. Sea lamprey are not bad, evil, icky things. They're just the opposite.

I heard they are two-faced and snooty, and unreliable dancing partners. Is that wrong?

They are creepy and I think scary as hell..I have read that they are awful parasites that can decimate fish populations.. What is wrong with that information? Please elaborate.
